I second that. I'm usually the first person to get excited about new technology, but pen and paper and a nice solid book will always have their place in my home and at my gaming table. That feeling of opening a book, a tome , seeing those rich illustrations and text on paper: there's just no way a c...

A happy new year to all! Just sticking my head in to let everyone know I'm alive (mostly!) after a hectic early winter, Christmas, etc. Santa didn't bring my old group back together for a Christmas game sadly, but I'm hoping somehow I can get some RL gaming action happening in '09. Reading articles ...

FOR2 review by Halaster

For those interested, Halaster's great review of FOR2, Drow of the Underdark is the latest feature on orcforge.net. By permission, I'll be publishing his other reviews from adndcampaigns as well over the next few weeks.

This is probably nothing you don't already know, but there are a ton of user made templates out there to download. If you find one that's 95% what you want, but maybe some text/background is the wrong color/size/font, or you need to replace a few images, it's usually just a little css tweaking to do...

I think they tried to sell some items off now and again. I didn't make it too hard to find a buyer, although I recall once the party got the shaft from a mage using the fool's gold spell.

HouseRules Cyclopedia

Just to make it official, the BIP/Orcforge project for collection and publication of house rules is up and running. Right now we're pooling all the house rules at the bottom of the page and deciding on a categorization scheme. Everyone is welcome to stop by and contribute to the discussion or contri...

When the game turns into a board game, all of a sudden this "balance" issue becomes a much bigger deal. It's the same shit we've said all along about 3e: adding more rules to cover every situation and adding all these tactical "action" features doesn't give the players more freed...

I've put up a HouseRules Cyclopedia entry on the wiki and started an initial page with some thoughts on what categories (think of them as chapters if we make a PDF publication) should be included. There's a discussion page to talk about the subject - feel free to put in a link back to this thread to...

I just set up a wiki over at orcforge at www.orcforge.net forward slash collaborate (not written out to keep the spambots away). I was planning to use it for a mini dungeon at first, but it's really there for any collaborative projects that come my way. If you're interested in making a section for a...

I browsed the CK forums for a while and came across a snipped from Ed Greenwood talking about the 4e FR here . Basically he's saying "I'm not happy about the changes either but it's not my choice and I'm going to do my best to make the best of it". Personally, I wish he'd just jump ship an...

OK, just one more, Halaster I promise you'll love this gem: The ogres are sharp enough to hear the intruders, and their very first action highlights the danger of climbing stairs over an open pit of lava. A large stone strikes Alex and knocks him into the searing liquid stone. Oleander and Barth eng...

I just had a series of OMGWTF moments, each bigger and more eye gougingly painful than the last. Fire breating half dragon paladins might just have paladin assassins beat. Although, unaligned half demon warlock/paladins come pretty close. This one was good for a chuckle too. Here's a quote: Plus I w...

I'll be interested to see how successful it will turn out to be. They're treading a fine line by having the game play so much like a computer game, and now strongly incorporating electronic elements as well. At some point, one would have to ask the question "why not just play a computer game?&q...

I've found players often ask to start at 2nd. I don't really like that myself, but I've tended to compromise by giving out a lot more xp at first level than the rules would dictate.

It didn't happen to be Columbus, did it? I have an absolutely miserable business trip there every summer, and a good comic shop stop would give me something to which to look forward.
