Why don't I just skip all that nonsense and play 1E, like I wanted to do in the first place? You should play what you want. As long as you can get the books and can get players, play away. New editions never mean you can't play what you want. And just to blur threads, here is another link people mi...

I was player in the Worldwide Game Day event on Saturday. I took my boss, who is a retired OOP player. I played a cleric and he played a rogue. I will say one thing for Hasbro, they spent a good little chunk of their marketing budget on Game Day. The players got to keep the miniature and the 20-side...

Re: 4E, has Hasbro finally delivered the killing blow?
I've seen the 4E PHB and it is far worse than I could ever have imagined. And I had really low expectations for it going in! I am also not all that happy with what I have read so far. My list of problems grow larger with each section I delve into. I will be playing it this Saturday at "Game Da...

Starting at 1st Level
In another thread it was mentioned that it is difficult to get players to agree to start at 1st level. I "always" start at first level. Is starting at first level something that really bothers players?

Magic Missle is an At-will but Sleep is not. Sleep is under the category of Level 1 Daily Spells (according to the PHB anyway). Second wind, is one of the things I have read so far that I can't stand. Can't comment on any of the other stuff yet. The 4e QuickStart Rules are out. Here is the ammo to b...

Yup. I had the choice of severing my own testicles or buying the 4E core rules. My level head prevailed so I pre-ordered. So how come I have 7 "Hell No's" and ZERO "Yes's"???? :P Because I am a doofus and didn't hit "yes". I am interested in 4E for several reasons. Fir...

Anyone plan on buying THIS ???? Yup. I had the choice of severing my own testicles or buying the 4E core rules. My level head prevailed so I pre-ordered. For what it is worth, I have a copy of the quick start rules. It leaves lots of questions and I'm still going to give playing it a shot but I don...

I prefer my fantasy to be completely separated from religious iconics regardless of the faith. That's also why I'll never run a game or play in a game with real world religions as the choices for priest characters. Amen!. Sorry, that was pretty bad. I agree but it was a lesson I learned a hard way ...

If you get a chance, do a Google search on Shaun Hately's.....ah hell, I'll get it for you. http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/byzantium/55/index2.htm Under Guides, there's a herbs zipfile that has Shaun's document in it. As for the MC pages themselves, I'm probably one of only a handful of people who absolutely love the format. Wish they hadn't gone to books at all. Thanks to my session last week, I have changed my opinion on the loose leaf format of the MC. I now game in a friendly, local, gaming store which means...

Complete Illusionist Handbook is pissing me off to the point where I just want to forget it. Three development teams and no progress. It seems to be a doomed project unless and until someone with the drive to really take over it steps up. I just can't devote any time to it. Who is currently running...

I've never understood how anyone could have problems with thaco. It's 3rd grade math. Even with negative armor classes, just add a negative. So if your thaco is 13 and you're trying to hit AC -3, you have to roll 16+. In defense of my players it wasn't the math that was the problem. It was negative...

Jeff, I'm glad you were able to get off to a good start. I feel we had a similar 'good first session' yesterday on the west side as well. It appears the older editions are alive and well in the ATL! 8) I look forward to reading about more of your sessions. Congratulations! ~Hoyt. Thanks Hoyt. Congr...

So my first session back with the DM hat is complete. It was an amazing success. Well, after the THAC0 discussions that is. Had a few concerns early on with one player wanting to play a monk but only remembering monks from 1E or the 3.5 monks. We eventually game to terms. She is now a monk that work...

What is it About THAC0
Just got home from my gaming session. It was a great success. In all the campaign prep, I never once considered a diplomatic approach to handling orcs. Who knew? Anyway, the first little bit of time was spent on character generation. Everyone in my group had a problem with THAC0. I personally think ...

DarkSun simply because it is so differnt from any other setting. mere survival is a reward and a steel dagger is a weapon to fear. the alien races (Thri-kreen) , the feral man eating halflings, half-giant door kicker in's, Mul's and tall elves...freaking awesome! plus the art work was fantastic. le...

Dusting off the DM Hat. Geez I'm Nervous
It has been years since I have run a game. I think Lincoln was President the last time I rolled a 20-sider as the title of DM. But I am not that good with American History so it could have been James Carville. Anyway, it has been a long time and tomorrow I put the hat back on my head, load all my 2n...
