The idea, as Hal has discussed before, is not the best. The only good aspect (IMO) is the hordes of monsters (and undead victims of UM) that start emerging all over Waterdeep and causing mayhem.

Hal -

With Stardock, when Hal is kidnapped, don't monsters start pouring out of gates/entrances to Undermountain and attack Waterdeep?

I think that has some entertaining possibilities.

I'm not sure that the gargoyle loses its wings but it does cry about not being able to guard 2 of Halaster's undead apprentices. Anyways, it is not the highlight of the story. As to Halaster's madness etc I think it was explored in one of the recent FR novels (Blackstaff?). I haven't read it but I d...

Thanks McDeath - I wasn't sure whether Halaster wiped out the dwarves or they had moved on. I thought that he had wiped the duergar out, but I was confused with the Drow! (Still, controlled Drow special undead could be very unpleasant too!) Hal - as to the novel, I thought most of it seemed like a p...

Undermountain questions

Hi - 2 questions which may/may not have implications for the BiP Undermountain project; 1. TSR published a novel "Escape from Undermountain" which seemed like a bit of showcase for the (generally discredited) product RoU II. Has this novel influenced and/or been taken into account with the...

I found BIP through Halaster's notice on CK. I'm a new member so there's not much to say about my history with this site or its members. I'm located in Australia and I play 2nd ed FR (I've got a campaign log in the site if anyone is interested). I started gaming back in the late 80's - early 90's an...

And now it looks like WotC is turtling into their protective copyright shells with this latest version of their GSL. I love it. What clearer indication of a company that doesn't know what the fuck it's doing than to completely alienate, not only long time supportive fans like us (and even 3e'ers), ...

I don't like to poach comments from other sites but there was a discussion of 4th ed combat on CK which bears reading. It took a party of 5 1st level characters 1+hours to kill 6 Kobolds (and 2 of the party were knocked unconscious!) Track it down for a laugh

The way I see it, there are a lot of loyal consumers there (not meant as a compliment by any means), and so they tend to be supportive of the nonsense. I've seen lots of strange posts along the lines of (almost verbatim): "Well, I hate the changes they're making in 4E, but I'm going to buy it ...

Yeah, it'd be a lot to bite off. But not as much as it appears. Most of the work is done. It'd just be a matter of integrating the two, tweaking a couple of mechanics, and combining info. I think the integration bit with the opposing schools of thought/ideas would be the major issue. You'd need to ...

Re: New AD&D Edition for BIP Project?

I had an idea. At this point it's nothing more than a measure of general interest, since we're so busy with Undermountain and everything. But what do you all think about the BIP Project creating a new edition based on the best aspects of both 1E and 2E? Lots of us play a hybrid of the two anyway. S...

Seems to me that the CK site is not much different from the Planet-Tard site. Same strange fascination with idiotic combinations (paladin/assassins or Halaster/Manshoon hybrids), same obsessive, slavish dedication to WOTC, same apologetic excuse making in an attempt to "justify" WOTC's ac...

I don't think it's necessarily the Negative Material Plane, but any extra planar connection. Maybe because I grew up with 1E, and demons and devils are turnable there. (and those have no connection to the Negative Material Plane). In the case of skeletons and zombies, part of the original soul is i...

I've always considered all undead to have been animated via the Negative Material Plane. Those with stronger links can produce more horrendous effects, ie aging by ghosts, level draining by vampires, mummy rot, etc. It's the only way to make sense of the cleric's ability to turn undead (of any kind...

Skeletons and Zombies are undead without any ties to the Negative Material Plane. The level draining undead have such ties, but there are undead that don't have them. (and they don't drain levels due to that) Mira (When the chips are down, the buffalo is empty) I actually have to concede that I may...
