Looking for cartographer

Post by Halaster Blackcloak »

Ok, I need a second cartographer. Doirche has his hands full as it is with the Undermountain maps, but I need to do some archiving of a special campaign from long, long ago and I need someone who can work in Illustrator and who can duplicate maps similar to those included in the Dragonlance Taladas box set.

What I'm going to do is print up the character sheets (which were customized and done years ago), print up the adventures (which were done and customized years ago) and finally, for the first time present a nicely done map (as opposed to my hand scrawls). So far, the only thing missing is a map. I tried my hand at it and I suck. No time to learn a program like that or practice, so I need someone who can whip one up.

Anyone?

Are you looking for the full color versions created to look like the ones in Taladas. Also do you know which font was used? I could recreate the style but to get it right the font would help.

Definitely full color, but I'd use the Papyrus font instead of whatever they used for Taladas.

That can be done. I can work off your map artwork and get a png workup of them.

Tawnos, would you be able to convert it to Illustrator or PDF format because I'd like to print it as a full sized wall map.

I'll email you more details. Have you done any mapping work before? Any samples?

Oh, btw...the map is a just a smaller area of a continent. I'm focusing on a chunk of land that's just part of a larger (and as yet undefined) continent. A couple of cities and other sites of interest nestled in a hidden mountain range, sorta like the map for Thunder Rift.

I can easily convert to PDF and I will see if I can get a convert for illustrator.

I have done some mapwork with Dungeon Crafter and CC2 and CC3 before as well as some mapwork for my boardgames.

I have the maps.
I will have something for you to look at after this weekend. If you like the example then I will continue.
Work has been a bit busy so I have not gone to far yet but I have a general outline.

Sorry not to get back to you.

My sister has breast cancer and between that and work I have been very busy.

I have a 4 day weekend this week so I am going to finish this up.
You sent me a city map from Google or another map site and it looks like you want an inner city to city map as in the Thunder Rift book and the larger map image as well. I have changed the larger map to match the color pallet of thunder rift and am getting the city to city map together and will send them out by Sunday at the latest for you to check over.

Wow! All of them are excellent, but that Dagori map is incredible, Tawnos.

Mostly Paint.net which you can get online for free. I like it over the Gimp and with an add-on you can open and save files in photoshop format.

The cities are easy s they are mostly squares.

I also have CC3 for outside maps.

Does Paint.net support drawing tablets?

You can check out the feature page or the forums on http://www.paint.net/
and click on the getpaint link for the main page.

I do not have a tablet so I never tried.

If you do download it then look through the add-ons as they really make it worthwhile. The Grim Color reaper is very helpful as it can remove a color completely from an image especially white which you can then make transparent which helps when adding into an existing image.

Tawnos, I couldn't figure out how to resize the link in phpBB code, so I deleted that map until you can resize the actual image. It was way to big to fit the forum. Also, please don't post the map of Nordheim, that's a private campaign map that I didn't want made public. Thanks!

Sorry for that.

What size do you want the map?
