Most of you remember, no doubt, the various Complete Player Handbooks (PHBR Series) for 2nd Edition AD&D...the Complete Fighter Handbook, the Complete Druid's Handbook, etc. Then there were some DMGR Series (DM Reference) books like The Complete Book of Necromancers.
Generalist wizards got their own handbook (PHBR type) as did necromancers (DMGR type). But illusionists never got one. And since illusionists are one of the more interesting wizard specialists, we decided to go for it!
The Complete Book of Illusionists will follow the same general layout and style of the other "Complete Book of _______" titles. It's going to have new kits for illusionists, new spells, new familiars, and all sorts of details on running illusionist specialty wizards.
The project came to a standstill last year, but we have some new developers stepping up to the plate. Plus, some of the original developers who didn't have enough spare time to participate full-time are still helping to flesh it out.
So we have a very creative team working on this project, but we can use an artist to contribute art, since we have none at the moment to work on this. The project is moving forward, and I hope to have it released by fall of 2007.

It's been 13 years. Has there been any movement on this project?

Re: What is the Complete Book of Illusionists?
We're down to the last 10 rooms or less. This past year has been so stressful and busy prepping for Armageddon and dealing with all the research I've had to sit through (I'm at or beyond the 1,500 hr. mark of webinars and research in the past 18 months alone) that not much else has gotten done, unfortunately. The next 3 weeks, I'm focusing 100% on Christmas stuff, to squeeze out as much joy from the holiday as best I can before it all ends. After Jan. 6th, it's an 8 month drag until the season comes along again.
But I do get inspired by the holidays, so come the new year I should be diving back in. Like I said, not much left to wrap up really as far as rooms go. AND...my cousin may have found an artist for us, and a good one! I sent him a list of test drawings to do, to see if he can do fantasy stuff well, but his pencil work is quite good when drawing real life people, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Argh! Never mind. I didn't notice you were replying about the Illusionist Handbook, so I was replying about RoUIII. But yes, the illusionist handbook is something I'd love to tackle, if we can get thru RoUIII first. The layout is done, and there is a decent amount of material for it, but everyone who was working on it sorta just disappeared off the internet, and I've been focused mainly on RoUIII.
