Cool Hobbit find!

Well, there's this Salvation Army type dollar store not far from here, and I've had luck running into some cool books and antiques there lately. This Sunday I went out for the first time in a week (due to the flue/bronchitis). And it was worth it! I found a vinyl LP record of The Hobbit! Not that I have a record player right now, but damn, look at the cool magazine-like booklet that came with it!

Just love that art!

The art style looks very familiar. I feel like I may have seen that image before somewhere!

The round-y, bulge-y masses around the eyes of the hobbit and the dwarves.... I know I've seen that style before. But long ago. So long ago.

I can't put a name to any of it, just a feeling of foreverness.

While the concept artwork was completed in the US, a noted Japanese animation studio Topcraft, produced the animation for Rankin-Bass. Principal artists included coordinating animator Toru Hara; supervising animator/character designer Tsuguyuki Kubo; character and effects animators Hidetoshi Kaneko, Kazuko Ito; and background designer Minoru Nishida. The same studio and crew members were also used for The Return of the King.
