Some nice finds this past weekend

Post by Tawnos76 »

Our neighborhood had a large community garage sale and I picked up an old Forgotten Realms box set (complete) Dark Sun box set (half there) and a large box edition of AD&D starter set that when I finished looking through after I got home also had in it the old AD&D TSR Dragonstrike game.
All for $15

Aside from a few articles in the late lamented Dragon Magazine I know nothing about DARK SUN. What I did read seemed a little to "far out" for AD&D for me- and I actually liked Spelljammer! [/i]

I wasn't a fan of either. Dark Sun to me seemed too...not sure what word to use. Unusual? The concept seemed interesting, but I never did manage to get a campaign in Dark Sun off the ground. It was just too far from sword & sorcery for me to really be able to write adventures for.

And Spelljammer to me was just too sci-fi. If I want space ships, I'll play Star Frontiers. But I did love a lot of monsters from Spelljammer. What was that indestructible iron robot-like creature from the SJ MC? Nasty!

I've always lamented never having played a proper Greyhawk campaign. Almost all my games were either home brew, or set in the Forgotten Realms. And my last campaign was set on Taladas in Dragonlance, but I sorta made it my own and jettisoned all the Dragonlance soap opera nonsense out of it.

Always wanted to play Birthright too. Seemed interesting.

Never had a campaign but was an uber spelljammer fan. I bought all the main books/boxes. I didn't get the novels or choose your own adventure nor any of the figurines. I wanted to complete at least one of the worlds and I accomplished that. Huzzah. Came close with the Newhon stuff but am still missing some. Ah, I miss having money to spend at will. Oh well. I have plenty to read.

Must be the dragon RPG hoarder in me.
At the edge of madness, he will show no sadness
Never broken, he'll be back for more
Proven under fire, over trench and wire
No fear of death, he's unshakeable
Forged for the war, he's unbreakable
