You all remember the froghemoth, which first appeared in S3: Expedition to Barrier Peaks (1980) and then in the 1E Monster Manual II (1983)? Well, I seem to have found an appearance that predates both sources, and D&D in general!
I was reading through my monster comics and magazines for Halloween season, and in an issue of RIpley's Believe It Or Not (Gold Key Comics) dated for June of 1971...
...I found this...
Looks like a froghemoth to me! I wonder sometimes, where some of the inspirations of some monsters came from, like the rust monster being inspired by (copied from!) the little plastic generic monsters from gum ball machines. What do the rest of you think? Coincidence?
