I've always been of the school that says any mortal, no matter how powerful or high level (Merlin, Elminster, Drizzt, Mordenkainen, etc), can hurt (much less kill) a god. Gods can simply decide that mortal being is annihilated, and it is so.
Drizzt going up against Thor? ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Well, I found another 1E reference to back my stance. In the 2E MM, under Titan, it says (in reference to Greater Titans):
"Like the gods themselves, greater titans are simply not subject to aggression from non-divine beings. They are never harmed by such attacks."
Amen! (no pun intended)
You can't hurt the gods!
