1E Demon names - never noticed this!
I was paging through and outlining an old 1E DMG the other day, and what did I notice that I probably never noticed in all my years of gaming? On the latter pages of the DMG, pgs. 196-214, there is an appendix of sorts, a table listing all the monster stats. On page 198, under Demon, they list the names of various Type IV, Type V and Type VI demons.
For those who've never played 1E, there were demon Types, which in 2E became generic types. For example, in 1E there are only six Type VI demons known to exist (one is named Balor in the MM1). In 2E, a balor is a generic type of demon, and is essentially the Type VI demon, only made into a generic name (they're all called "balors").
Well, in the DMG, they list all the names of the Type VI demons!
Balor, Alzoll, Errtu, Ndulu, Ter-sath, and Wendonai
Same for the other types.
How cool is that? How crazy is that...that I've never really looked closely at that section in 35 years? That's why the 1E DMG is so cool - 35 years later I'm still finding new info!

Since I left Christianity back in November 2013 (and the horrible erasure of my hard drive of d&d stuff) I had been perusing many religions and cults and spirituality sites. Some are satanist sites (mostly bleck drivel) but the demon and deity listings and descriptors are interesting. There are alsoelrmental, djinn, angel, spirits, and myriads of sites on all sorts of stuff that I read. I'm currently looking at this enochian and golden dawn orders dealing with elemental tablets of the apocalypse, angel and angel rulers, cacodemons, elemental kings, and names of god.
It's colorful shit and would make good maps and puzzles but those that study and take it seriously must be really confused. Tablets read like word seaches and the angel names are ridiculous. The story behind dee and his partner are just weird.
I'm also liking up Mesopotamia religions and Babylonian along with Egyptian and back to Greek/roman roots.
Lots of odd demons to read about

At the edge of madness, he will show no sadness
Never broken, he'll be back for more
Proven under fire, over trench and wire
No fear of death, he's unshakeable
Forged for the war, he's unbreakable

Proven under fire, over trench and wire

I never liked the art for Demogorgon or Orcus in 1E. When Grenadier did the miniature for Demogorgon and gave him reptilian heads, that to me made more sense (and looked better) than the mandrill heads, since Demogorgon is served by reptiles and dinosaurs.
To me, that's the definitive portrayal of Demogorgon.

I thought you did a few colorings of the art?
