Adventure name/location generator

Post by Minstrel »

There was a discussion once at adndcampaigns about how adventure names could pretty easily be generated randomly and were a bit formulaic.

I think Zherbus' formula was Monster Name + Location + "of the" + adjective + Unique Monster name...so you'd get something like:

Kobold Temple of the Ravenous Witch King

or

Lizardmen Sanctum of the Tenacious Kraken

So point being, I found a pretty spiffy adventure location generator here just now.

My first random 10 were:

Cave of Dreams
Demense of the Ghosts
Desecrated Mountains of Pain
Eternal Citadel of the Ghoul Lord
Floating Forest of Wisdom
Jungle of Destruction
Maze of Terror
Necromantic Temple
Profane Necropolis of Magic Terror
Swamp of Mystic Runes

A few booooring ones, but a couple actually gave me some inspiration. Swamp of mystic runes, I'm thinking of a swamp with all these tipped over standing stones, some submerged, with a rune on each and some sort of magic power that either empowers or could defeat something evil.

Not sure about the floating forest of wisdom...a little trippy for my tastes! "Maaaannn, check out the floating trees, I feel so at peace" *bong hit*...

EDIT : that site has more generators than you can shake the "Wand of the Glorious Spell of the Acidic Lantern" (yes I really got that) at...the Dark Ritual Generator is pretty sweet...don't know what to call the ritual the servants of the evil god are performing to bring about the end of the world, coming of the anti-whatever, etc...just roll it up!

My favorite so far:

Haunted Ritual of the Twenty Insane Princes of Damnation

Abyss of Souls
Blessed Sepulcher of Desecrated Prayers
Buried Marsh
Woods of Bloody Decay
Woods of Drowned War
Cursed Abyss
Desert of Decrepid Enchantment
Foul Valley of Legendary Death
Gorge of Bone
Gorge of Metal Torture

:? Uh....

I think I'll try again.

Demense of the Ghosts sound cool, and Eternal Citadel of the Ghoul Lord has already inspired me!

Algolei, I think they had it in for you! Foul Valley of Legendary Death sounds like a bad kung fu movie!

I got a couple of good ones:

Cenotaph of the Void
Monument of the Witchlord
Moor of Blood

I got some hideously bad ones for horror:

Damned Pit of Silence
Damned Prison of Killers
Unspeakable Cenotaph of Cannibals
Warped Pavillion of the Devouring Beings
Warped Village of Suffering
Demonic Park of Torturers

Weird!

I should probably use that site. My adventures are called "Evil Mountain" and "The Village of Kyrburg" and "The Trip to France." (I'm not kidding, either. Those are the names!)

Let's see what three I can get to replace them with, completely at random:

Twisted Caves of Madness
Secret Hall of Darkness
Burning Catacombs

Hmmm, slightly less accurate. Catchier, though!

Assuming they mean "decrepit"...

"You are walking through the desert. The sense of an evil enchantment begins to rise up around you, but then goes away. It must have been too old and decrepit to do anything. OK everyone that was fun, next adventure."

Foul Valley of Legendary Death had me rofl-ing.

That got me LoLing.
At the edge of madness, he will show no sadness
Never broken, he'll be back for more
Proven under fire, over trench and wire
No fear of death, he's unshakeable
Forged for the war, he's unbreakable

The Quest Item Generator isn't too bad...this one though:

The eight pieces of the Prismatic Action Lyre

just sounds somehow...kinky...

Does it use AAA or AA Batteries is the real question!
