Merry Christmas Everyone!

Post by Halaster Blackcloak »

It's Christmas Eve, the most magical night of the year! I have all my old Christmas comics out for reading, got the egg nog in my glass and Christmas carols playing! If anyone here hasn't seen it yet, tonight is the perfect night to watch a movie called Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. An entirely insane but fun movie for Christmas.

Anyway, just checking in to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Die Hard and Die Hard 2 are both must-see movies for me during the Christmas season! Same for Lethal Weapon. And a horror movie called Black Christmas. Don't ask me why, but it really makes me feel it's Christmas time.

And of course, A Christmas Carol (Scrouge), Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, It's a Wonderful Life, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Journey to the Christmas Star (Norwegian), Christmas Story (Finnish), Jingle All the Way, Home Alone. And I have a DVD of a burning fireplace that plays music, a crackling fire, or both. And a DVD with amazing scenes of snowfall with nature sounds.

Then there are the classic short cartoons- The Three Little Dwarves (Hardrock, Coco, and Joe), Suzy Snowflake, and Frosty the Snowman (all of them made by the same company in the early 60s, maybe late 50s).

And the animated Scrouge cartoon with the voice of Alistair Sim from the live movie.

So much Christmas fun!

Don't forget to add Gremlins to that Christmas movie list.

Is there a definitive listing of Xmas movies? Probably is.

I'm sure there's an unlimited number of movies that can be added. I only generally watch the ones I most enjoy and/or have nostalgia of capture the feeling of the holiday for me.

As a grade schooler I went to summer time movie club Friday’s at the grade school. It was 3 hours of movies with the yellow popcorn from the school maker. So I saw all the classic holiday movies done like Rudolph and such along with other animal movies, some old Disney like flubber, Mary poppies, and a lot of other rated g in the 80s. A lot of my holiday picks are kiddo movies but I do like some modern like Jingle all the way, and Die Hard. The cop was so glad to get away from Steve Urkel.

In my previous security job, the supervisor was a clone of the black Twinkie-eating cop from Die Hard. A clone, I swear to god! It was unreal.

I snagged some great D&D related stuff for Xmas this year. I got a large plastic/rubber material green dragon that is amazingly sculpted, a set of cool miniature dragons of various colors, and the Art & Arcana (Barnes & Noble Special Edition) D&D book, which is amazingly well done and a total nostalgia trip with some new info and pics I've never seen before.

Merry Christmas 2019

Post by McDeath »

Well, another year of Xmas so I thought I'd put this up that I posted somewhere else. I found it rather interesting:

Was there a Christmas Holiday movie thread? Anyways... remember: Rankin-Bass Christmas Specials

Pay attention to this odd one:
Image
> 1) “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus”
>
> This is far and away the most screwed up Rankin-Bass special. The story’s framing device is that a council of omnipotent spirit-lords must debate whether or not they should make Santa immortal as he waits on his deathbed. What follows is the most divergent Santa Claus origin story in recent memory. Apparently, good old Saint Nick was raised by a magical lion in the enchanted forest that lies beyond this earthly realm. Apparently Santa had to fight a race of children-hating demons before he could get the whole Christmas thing started.
>
> I imagine the pitch meeting for “Life and Adventures” went a little something like this:
> “Hey, Rankin?”
> “Yes, Bass?”
> “How do we spice up the story of Santa Claus for today’s young audience?”
> “I’m not sure…what if we have Santa fight a war against invisible eldritch horrors over the right to give toys to other people’s children?”
> “Sounds great. I’ll grab the puppets.”
>
> Festive Moment: I am at a total loss. There is nothing festive about this. Your uncle talking about his colonoscopy over Christmas dinner is more festive than this.
>
> What the F*ck Moment: Santa is kidnapped and tortured by a race of invisible demons. The king of these demons is later vaporized by a magical ax. Children have nightmares about this well into their forties.
>
> Holiday Aura Produced: This holiday special creates a feeling akin to what it would be like to actually live at the North Pole with nothing but reindeer and elves to keep you company — terrifying, disorienting, but somehow alluring.
>
Evll spirit-lords, demons, magical land, and an magic-axe wielding Santa Warrior I assume. Damn!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Santa brought me a nice mint condition box set of...

RUINS OF UNDERMOUNTAIN!

Both of my other sets are old and marked up, so I wanted a fresh brand new box! Yes! :D :D :D

You should put up some pictures of you boxes sets side by side. I'm wondering how well reproductions via lulu or drivethru are. There's no way they replicate poster maps nicely.

I should. I have one original box set and all the books and maps and what not, then another set of the original material without the box itself. The one box I have it beat up and taped up a bit. The new one is in almost brand new shape and has everything except the MC sheets, which the seller is checking if they have.

My first box was from a comic shop and it was used also missing the MC sheets. Sure they were online later and I printed them out but its not the same.

Worse thing I EVER did besides cutting out the stuff in cities and dungeon of mystery and making the cardboard houses (which later got infested with bugs and burnt) was putting up the MC pictures on my walls with staples. Cats got in there and clawed them down and I only have a few left.

STUPID!

If artwork Is online and in excellent perspective/clarity then I can print to my hearts desire if I get a good printer. (and if I had room).

Boxes and covers can take a hit though being on shelves. Every time they are pulled out there is that possible scratch to be.

Kitties love to show us who's the boss!

But I don't get why you'd staple the MC sheets to the wall...wouldn't that make it impossible to read the monsters detailed on the back side? :?

I wish I could find some nice plastic bags for the boxes. Never saw any that looked neat.

The picture dividers not the monster sheets themselves. The full color art that you were suppose to put letters on the tabs.
